About Me
I was always a kid who needed to be outside. The outdoors has always been a place where I could do my best thinking. Over the years, I have become fascinated by the relationship between the natural environment and people–especially young people, and the possibility that relationship holds for growth, healing, and learning.
Throughout my career, I’ve explored this through several different lenses, first as an outdoor educator and production farmer in my home state of Massachusetts, then via urban agriculture in Berkeley, school-based garden education in San Francisco, and currently by helping people re-vitalize and rebuild their home gardens and landscapes throughout the Bay Area.
In my personal and professional life, I have worked–and struggled–to try and build a world and a workplace that is more just and equitable. The farm-to-table, outdoor education, and nonprofit fields have been, and continue to be predominantly white fields. It is my sincere belief and hope that this will not always be so. I am committed to doing both the personal and structural work of creating policies and practices that make a more just environmental movement possible.
